The National Water Research Institute announces the publication of a third edition of the Ultraviolet Disinfection Guidelines for Drinking Water and Water Reuse, revised by Robert W. Emerick, PhD, PE, of Stantec Consulting Services and George Tchobanoglous, PhD, PE, NAE, Professor Emeritus at the University of California-Davis. The purpose of the guidelines is to provide regulatory agencies and water and wastewater utilities with a common basis for evaluating and implementing UV disinfection, which can inactivate many waterborne pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites like Cryptosporidium and Giardia. The protocols section was updated to provide a standardized protocol for conducting spot-check performance MS-2 based viral bioassays and standardize the assignment of UV dose when conducting MS-2 based viral assays . The guidelines are available for download. http://www.nwri-usa.org/uvguidelines.htm
