Westbrook, Maine-based IDEXX Laboratories Inc. launched its Colilert-18 test—a USEPA-approved method for detecting total coliforms and E. coli in water—that recently received additional acceptance for compliance testing within the European Union. In the UK, the country’s Drinking Water Inspectorate included the Colilert-18 method in its March issue of The Microbiology of Drinking Water (2002). Norway made the method an integral part of its new national drinking water regulations beginning Jan. 1, 2002.
