Purolite S-108, new from The Purolite Company, is a macroporous polystyrenic-based anion IX resin with functional groups specially designed for the selective removal of salts of boron from aqueous solutions. It is effective for such solutions over a wide range of pH values and boron concentrations. Boron is difficult to remove, especially in the presence of other, more chemically attractive ions. The S-108 will selectively remove the boron, ignoring other ions and is ideal for radwaste applications for reducing boron to acceptable for discharge or reuse. It can also be used as a de-borating resin in reactor coolant systems. S-108 can remove about 56 grams of boron per cubic foot, at a flow rate of two gpm per cubic foot.
