Columbus, Ohio-based Hague Quality Water Intl. conducted a “lights out” test where a 40-ton injection-molding machine ran continuously for 96 hours, mass-producing over 38,000 valve insert rings. The machine successfully operated unattended the entire time, including a weekend. It injects the plastic under high pressure, making two parts and then cools them. Once properly cooled, a robot picks up the parts along with its sprue and takes them outside of the machine to a nipper that automatically snips off the two good parts.
