The USEPA has approved Westbrook, Maine-based IDEXX Laboratories Inc.’s new Quanti-Tray/2000 device for drinking water, source water and, in some cases, wastewater. The system uses Colilert, Colilert-18 or Colisure to quantify over 2,000 coliforms and E. coli per 100 mL water sample with no need for dilutions. Simply add reagent to the sample, seal in a sterile Quanti-Tray/2000 sample tray and incubate. Then, count the number of colored or fluorescent wells and refer to an MPN table.
