The American Water Works Association has announced the winners of its annual Fresh Ideas Poster Competition for students that took place during the Association’s Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE18) in Las Vegas, NV. The competition was one of several special events at the annual conference geared toward students and young professionals.
The first place winner was Zachary Hopkins from AWWA’s North Carolina Section for his entry, entitled Occurrence and treatment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in the Cape Fear River. As first place winner, Hopkins will receive $500 (USD) and the opportunity to write an article for Journal – American Water Works Association. The second place winner was Jackie Fischer from AWWA’s Ohio Section, for Analysis of Life Cycle within Various Strains of Cyanobacteria with a Focus on Internal Regulators & Toxin Production.
Tied for third place were Paige Taber from AWWA’s South Carolina Section, for Effect of peroxide-based advanced oxidation removal of UV-quenching substances in landfill leachate, along with Emma Thompson from AWWA’s Ontario Section, for Pressure to Plan – Transient Modelling for Asset Risk Management.
