On September 23, AMTA launches its much anticipated Ben’s Virtual Corner. Join industry leader Ben Movahed and esteemed experts for an hour of membrane learning and conversation. Upcoming is Pretreatment for Membrane Treatment Systems. Learn why pretreatment is so critical to the successful operation of membrane systems and how pretreatment can increase membrane system efficiency and life expectancy. Engage with Ben and fellow experts as they share pretreatment solutions for preventing membrane system failure.
The free webinar will take place Thursday, September 23, from 1-2 p.m. EST. Featured speakers are Ben Movahed, PE, BCEE, President, WATEK Engineering Corp. and Greg D. Wetterau, PE, BCEE, Vice President, CDM Smith. To register, click here.
Fellowship nominations sought
The American Membrane Technology Association (AMTA) announced a call for nominees for the AMTA Ian C. Watson Fellowship for Membrane Advancement. The fellowship is awarded to a graduate student currently enrolled in university and pursuing a full-time Masters Degree or PhD with a research focus on innovations in membrane technology for the treatment of water or wastewater in municipal, industrial or agricultural applications.
The $10,000 (USD) award for the 2021-2022 academic year requires that research must pertain to the advancement of membrane technology in the water industry. The research must be consistent with AMTA’s vision to “solve water supply and quality issues through the widespread application of membrane technology.”
Possible areas of study include new or improved membrane materials; membrane modifications to control fouling/scaling; membrane changes or enhancements for removal efficiency or reduced energy consumption by membrane enhancements. Complete and submit all application materials by October 8. Click here for the application. Click here for application instructions.
The Ian C. Watson Fellowship awardee is expected to attend the 2023 Membrane Technology Conference & Exposition (MTC) event to share their research through a podium presentation. MTC registration fees and travel expenses, including accommodations at the host hotel, are to be covered by the awardee using award funds.
