The Drinking Water and Water Infrastructure Act of 2021
The US Senate passed Senate Bill 914 in a vote of 89-2 on April 29 that would authorize more than $35 billion (USD) in funding to improve water infrastructure and drinking water safety. “The Drinking Water and Water Infrastructure Act of 2021” reauthorizes the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, at increased funding levels, that provides federal grants and loans to states and communities to upgrade their water infrastructure and promote water utility sustainability and resilience efforts. The bill will also put an increased focus on disadvantaged and rural communities which often struggle to adequately fund and maintain water infrastructure. The bill will now be sent to the US House for consideration.
