New water university established
The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) understands that with the complexities of personal life and job demands, one needs a place to dictate the pace of learning, so it created the new NGWA University. This one-stop shop of online education is available now at https://www.pathlms.com/ngwa. Announced at Groundwater Week 2020, this virtual tool is the perfect place to earn continuing education credits, train a new employee, or learn more about water well maintenance.
First-of-its-kind study examines PFAS dietary exposure
A first-of-its-kind study by researchers at the Colorado School of Mines and engineering firm Geosyntec examines per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in groundwater used to grow crops. Researchers gathered data on how much individual PFAS are taken into vegetable crops (lettuce) irrigated with contaminated groundwater to estimate the daily dietary exposure intake through vegetables for adults and children.
120Water, Xylem, RCAP distribute face masks
The Rural Community Assistance Partnership announced in July 2020 it was sourcing and donating 40,000 N95 masks to front-line water operators in partnership with Xylem Watermark and 120Water, the digital water platform. In August, Xylem donated an additional 65,000, which RCAP was able to coordinate with 120Water to distribute in response to continued spikes seen in rural communities. By November, 105,000 masks had been distributed to utilities in 46 states, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Read the full release here.
