Toray Industries Inc., a Japanese manufacturer, has announced an upcoming and durable solution for reverse osmosis membrane technology. With this membrane, Toray promises prolonged high-quality water provision and enhanced chemical resistance, doubling conventional counterparts’ resilience to cleaning chemicals, halving replacement frequency, and reducing both degradation and operational complexities.

Toray’s membrane comes from the integration of advanced microscopy and data analysis to stabilize pore structures, which were proven effective in a recent testing at a wastewater plant. The membrane proved effective in reducing deterioration in the quality of obtained water, and with the reduction of disposed and replaced membranes, it could potentially slash carbon dioxide emissions by 50 percent. Toray is mass producing this membrane for global scale, entering markets in the start of 2024.
