India has taken massive strides toward achieving universal safe sanitation through the use of the Swachh Bharat Mission to increase access to toilets. With support from UNICEF, the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India, organized a four-day Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention in New Delhi in late September. The convention brought together ministers and other leaders from over 50 countries around the world, in order to both showcase India’s progress and learn about the best water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices across the globe.
