The American Membrane Technology Association (AMTA) announced that two students have been awarded AMTA ADC Fellowship Awards for 2018. Amar Bhardwaj, an undergraduate student at Columbia University in New York, is researching the selectivity and durability of RO membranes by encapsulation with over-layers of silicon oxide which can function as highly selective and robust nanomembranes. Allyson McGaughey, a PhD student at the University of Southern California, Los Angles, is examining the internal and distillate-side membrane hydrophobicity to understand pore wetting in membrane distillation, which is increasingly relevant in the face of growing scarcity and impairment of fresh-water resources.
