Martin Coles lost his three-year battle with cancer on September 20 at his home on Mercer Island, surrounded by his family. Born July 24, 1955 in Cardiff, Wales to Mary and Dennis Coles, he attended Swansea University and graduated with a BSc Hons in biochemistry in 1977. Coles was recruited by Proctor and Gamble and transferred to the US in 1980. His career included 35 years of service in a variety of senior executive and board positions: President of Operations for Pepsi Cola; Executive Vice President at Nike; President and CEO of Reebok International Ltd. and President of Starbucks Coffee International. In 2011, Coles was appointed President and Chief Executive of HaloSource. He served on several advisory boards, including University of Washington School of Business at Bothell, University of Washington Foster School of Business and Seattle University, where he was a fellow of the Albers Business School. Coles was preceded in death by his parents and his son Ramsey Oliver Coles. He is survived by his wife Jennifer; sons Tristan and Kiernan; daughter Madeleine; sister Nicola (Steve), as well as nephews and a niece. A memorial service will be held January 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Avenue SE, Mercer Island, WA 98040.
