Professor Kala Vairavamoorthy has been appointed Executive Director of the International Water Association (IWA), effective in September. He will be based in IWA’s Global Operations Office in The Hague, Netherlands. Vairavamoorthy has a PhD and MSc in environmental engineering from Imperial College, London and a BSc (Hons) in civil engineering from King’s College, London. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK). Previously, Vairavamoorthy was Deputy Director General for Research with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI). Prior to IWMI, he was the Founding Dean of the Patel College of Global Sustainability, a tenured Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Florida, a full Professor and Chair of Water Engineering at the University of Birmingham, UK and Professor and Head of Core of Sustainable Urban Water Infrastructure Systems at UNESCO-IHE.
