In an effort to address the disconnect between rigorous federal hazardous waste rules and their real-world use, US EPA’s newly proposed Retail Strategy will help companies in the retail sector better identify and manage hazardous waste and reclassify some products as non-acutely hazardous, among other actions. As part of this strategy, this fall the agency will finalize the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule.
