Standards industry veteran Bell mourned
Frank Bell, who passed away in May, was well-known to many who have worked in the water treatment industry during its formative period, the 1970s and 1980s. He represented the views and ideas of US EPA in many of the efforts of that time period. Bell managed the first independent testing of water treatment industry products in Gulf South Institute’s Study of POU Products. He also guided the development of US EPA’s Microbiological Standard that is presently used by NSF International and WQA. Most importantly, Bell served as the US EPA representative at the Joint Committee for DWTU at NSF International, leading the development of the original DWTU Standard 53 and Standard 42. Thus, our industry owes him a great deal for the guidance he provided during those early years.
