Calgon Carbon Corporation announced fourth-quarter and year-end results. Income from operations for the fourth quarter of 2012 was $14.7 million (USD) versus $8.2 million for the comparable period in 2011. Net income for the fourth quarter of 2012 was $9.1 million, or $0.16 per common share on a fully diluted basis, versus $4.9 million, or $0.09 per common share on a fully diluted basis, for the fourth quarter of 2011.

IAPMO/PMI training announced

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO®) and Plumbing Manufacturers International (PMI) have teamed up to offer an online presentation of the popular PMI Codes & Standards primer that previous to 1999 was only available in print. The new online course is presented in an audio/slide format, narrated by PMI Technical Director Len Swatkowski and accessed via the IAPMOLearn website (www.iapmolearn.org). The course is going through final documentation and will be available for registration on September 21.

Seldon certification announced

Seldon Technologies, Inc.’s WaterBox™ 300 MIL has passed the rigorous NSF P248 Protocol, Appendix B, assuring military personnel of safe drinking water, free of viruses, bacteria and cysts, anywhere in the world. Berkeley Springs water champions announced

The 23rd Annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting produced new winners and hosted entrants from around the world in February. More than 100 people crowded the Berkeley Springs Inn-Best Western Conference Center as 11 media judges spent hours tasting and selecting from among 82 waters sourced in 21 states and 10 foreign countries. There were 32 municipal waters from a dozen states, Canada, South Korea and Thailand. Emporia, KS municipal water was voted top tap water; Canadian Gold from Marchand, Manitoba scored top honors as best bottled still water; two sparkling waters (one Canadian and one Bosnian) tied for first place and the purified category was won by Rain Fresh Oxygen Purified from Garland, TX. The 24th annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting is scheduled for February 22, 2014.

Endress+Hauser has signed the Vector Controls and Automation Group (CAG) in Houston, TX as its sales representative servicing Texas, Oklahoma and portions of New Mexico and Arkansas. Change in venue for pool show

Held at the Schaumburg Convention Center for a second straight year, word has spread about the renewed image the Mid America Show has created for itself by moving to the new facility. With show attendance up almost 20 percent from the previous year, exhibitors that invested in the show started the 2013 trade show circuit with fresh and energized leads. The show has become known for quality and robust education that it offers attendees. This year was no exception, with over half the topics, as well as the accompanying presenters, being new this year.

Europe

GE membrane technology deployed in Spain

The city of Ávila, Spain will install GE’s ZeeWeed 500D ultrafiltration membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology to double the amount of water treated at its existing wastewater treatment plant. The city chose to upgrade the facility with MBR technology to increase capacity and comply with new regulations for nutrient removal, while keeping the same footprint and reusing most of the existing infrastructure. Xylem Water Solutions and GE jointly developed the project and assisted with the technical specifications. The facility is expected to begin commercial operation in summer 2013, when it will be the second largest ZeeWeed MBR plant in operation in Spain.

Primozone generators for Danish hospital

Primozone has received an order to supply ozone generators for a full-scale pilot project at the Herlev Hospital in Denmark. The aim of the project is to find a solution for removing pharmaceutical residue from hospital wastewater already at the source. The project is led by Grundfos and is financed by Herlev Hospital/the Capitol Region of Denmark, the Business Innovation Fund, the municipal WWTP Lynettefællesskabet and the Copenhagen and Herlev municipalities.

Australian desal plant operational with GE motors

GE’s Power Conversion business was instrumental in bringing Australia’s largest seawater desalination plant into operation by offering technology that provides a rainfall-independent water supply to complement catchments and storages in the area around Melbourne. The Victorian Desalination Project, 130 km (80.77 miles) southeast of Melbourne, runs on low- and medium-voltage drives and medium-voltage GE motors. The facility is among the largest RO plants in the world. It was brought online in November 2012, successfully completed the required 30-day continuous production test and reached full operation in December, three years after construction began.
