NGWA President-elect named Contractor of the Year

National Ground Water Association President-elect Daniel T. Meyer, MGWC, CVCLD, has been named Contractor of the Year by the California Groundwater Association (CGA). The award, presented at the 64th annual CGA Awards Banquet, recognized Meyer’s service to the groundwater industry in California and at the national level. Meyer, CFO for Gregg Drilling & Testing Inc., was formerly a certified public accountant before moving into full-time geotechnical work in his own company and later with Gregg Drilling & Testing. He is Vice Chair of CGA’s Education Committee and has been active with CGA’s Budget Committee. Meyer will become the NGWA President at the 2012 NGWA Groundwater Expo and Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV this month. He also serves on NGWA’s Investment Subcommittee and the National Ground Water Research and Educational Foundation Board.

Thomson added at NuWater

NuWater USA announced the appointment of Lynda Thomson, CWS-VI, as Director of Sales, responsible for growing and shaping NuWater USA’s resin sales division. She brings more than 15 years of water treatment and wholesale distribution expertise to the position. Previously, Thomson was the National Sales Manager for United States Resin. Selover honored by PMI

Craig Selover, current Masco Corporation Director of Plumbing Products Technology, was awarded the prestigious President’s Award at the Plumbing Manufacturers International’s (PMI) Fall Conference in October in Washington, DC. Established in 2009 by then PMI President Walt Strader, the President’s Award is given in recognition of lifetime achievement and outstanding contributions to the plumbing industry. Highly respected both within PMI and in the broader plumbing community, Selover has been a member of PMI for more than 30 years and served as President in 1990. The award was presented by current PMI President Stewart Yang.

Volk, Kuhns appointed at New Age

NewAge Industries named Robert Volk as Director of Manufacturing and Stephen Kuhns as National Sales Manager. Volk, a mechanical engineer, will be responsible for process development and improvement, new product manufacturing and overseeing the company’s thermoset and thermoplastic manufacturing teams. His role concentrates on the company’s AdvantaPure high-purity tubing and single-use components. Kuhns, previously employed by NewAge for 12 years, will fill a new position aimed at increasing industrial sales of the company’s core tubing lines, namely PVC, polyurethane, silicone and thermoplastic rubber (TPR). Kuhns will also be responsible for providing an increased field presence and strengthening the company’s network of distributors.

Vira Porth, wife of industry captain, passes away

WC&P has the sad duty of reporting that Vira L. Porth, beloved wife of former WQA President Donald L. Porth, passed away in August. A staunch supporter of her husband’s efforts on behalf of the water treatment industry and an advocate for water treatment dealers and their products, Vira was a prominent presence at conferences and exhibitions. She is survived by her siblings, Victor A. (Beverly) Bartel and Elsie M. (Albert H.) Novak; many nieces and nephews and her devoted caregiver of over 25 years, Barbara Karczmarczyk.
