NSF International appointed Alex Zhang to Managing Director, Water Systems, Asia-Pacific. Zhang’s 16 years of experience in water treatment technologies, operations management and international regulations relating to water quality will assist companies with global compliance and market access. An expert in drinking water quality, Zhang will oversee NSF International’s Water Programs in China, South
Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and India. His primary responsibilities include growing NSF’s testing, auditing and certification services as it relates to water treatment and distribution products produced in Asia. Prior to his tenure with NSF International, Zhang served as Asia-Pacific Operations Leader for GE Water & Process Technologies and as General Manager of EcoWater China. Zhang earned Master’s and Bachelor Degrees in applied mechanics from Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
NSF International Strategic Registrations, Ltd. (NSF-ISR) appointed Anthony Giles Business Development Director. Giles, who has extensive knowledge of management systems registrations, will oversee the growth of NSF’s management system registration services both domestically and abroad. Over the past six years, Giles has played a pivotal role in NSF-ISR’s success and global expansion. He most recently served as service delivery manager where he managed operations and global accounts for more than 6,000 companies. Before joining NSF, Giles held sales management and customer service roles and received training in ISO 9001 quality management systems, ISO 20000 information technology, Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Miller Heiman sales performance. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration from Eastern Michigan University and participated in NSF International’s first Leadership Excellence and Advancement Program.
The International Desalination Association (IDA) named Dr. Corrado Sommariva, Managing Director of ILF Consulting Engineers Middle East, President for the 2011-2013 term. Dr. Sommariva has been President of the European Desalination Society (EDS), Vice President of the International Desalination Association (IDA) and Chairman of the WHO committee for the establishment of safe drinking water from desalination, Technical Co-Chairman of the IDA World Congress in Dubai, co-chaired IDA’s conference on Desalination Industry Action for Good in Portofino, Italy and leads the organization’s newly formed Humanitarian Outreach Committee. Sommariva has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Genoa University and a diploma in Management from Leicester University. An honorary Professor at Genoa and L’Aquila Universities, he holds regular courses on desalination and water reuse related matters. He has published over 50 papers on desalination leading edge research and economics as well as two books on desalination management and economics.
IDA presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Masaru Kurihara, which recognizes his decades of contribution to the desalination and water reuse industry. Kurihara began his desalination industry career in the 1970s and, during the past 40 years, has contributed to both research and product development. He received the title of Fellow of the Society of Polymer Science in 2008 and the Chemical Society of Japan in 2009. Kurihara has also served IDA as a Director for six years. In addition, he contributed to the revitalization of the Japan Desalination Association (JDA) and the establishment of the Asia Pacific Desalination Association (APDA).

AdEdge Technologies has named Esmeralda Bonilla Latin America Business Development Manager for AdEdge Water Technologies, LLC. She will be responsible for developing new business opportunities for AdEdge water treatment systems in the Central and South American markets. Prior to her assuming her new position, Bonilla served as a Project Manger for AdEdge. The Los Angeles, CA-native grew up in Colombia, South America, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and is an active member of Engineers Without Borders (EWB).
