Always changing and improving

An old philosophy states that nothing stands still in life; it either moves forward or backward. In regard to WC&P, we are constantly striving to move forward to enhance the education and understanding of our readers.

We have added a column from Peter Cartwright, The Basics of Water Chemistry, to help those in the field have a better understanding of POU/POE water chemistry. And we have also added a column called Flowing Issues, which will examine the growing impact that regulation and legislation has on our marketplace.

Technical Review Committee member Shannon Murphy has agreed to be a regular contributor here and agreed to author the first article. Other industry experts will also be contributing.

It is the plan of WC&P to run a comprehensive reader survey this fall in order to better gauge what you are reading, what you find most beneficial and what you would like to see added. So start jotting down you ideas and thoughts, as we look forward to getting them.

Regardless of the survey, please feel free to contact Managing Editor Denise Roberts ([email protected]) or me ([email protected]) anytime you have a thought, insight or idea. We love to hear from you, our readers!

Speaking of which, in the June issue of WC&P, we would like to acknowledge something spotted by one of our readers. Within the article Chlorine and Chloramine Removal with Activated Carbon by Robert Potwora, one of the formulas was not correctly noted.

On the first page, toward the bottom of the first column, the hypochlorous acid is shown with a negative charge, but should be neutral instead; the hypochlorite ion is also shown with a positive charge, but should be negative instead.

The corrected paragraph and formula are noted below:

The addition of any of these to water will produce hypochlorous acid (HOCl). This disassociates into hypochlorite ions (OCl-) to some degree. (The reaction is summarized below).
