Aquion CMO appointed

Rainsoft’s parent company, Aquion Water Treatment Products, announced Mark Vance has joined the company as Chief Marketing Officer. He brings extensive executive-level marketing experience with a strong history focused on consumer marketing. He previously served as Vice President of Consumer Marketing at Spring-Green Lawn Care and Vice President of Marketing for Oberweis Dairy. With more than 25 years of experience in manufacturing, business development, retail and consumer products marketing, Vance has a history of success in developing and executing innovative branding, corporate communications and in building sales strategies.

Toray President named 

Toray Membrane USA recently added Thomas Wolfe as Vice President of Software Technology. A 25-year veteran of water and energy related processes, he was previously Chief Technical Officer for Open Energy Corp and President/CEO of WaterEye Corporation. Wolfe has extensive experience with RO and thermal processes for water production and industrial design expertise. He was an early RO pioneer at General Atomic’s Reverse Osmosis General Atomic Division and has participated in many of the innovations that have made reverse osmosis a commercial product.

LANXESS group leader announced

Argentinean native Jorge A. Nogueira has been appointed head of LANXESS Functional Chemicals. Previously, he served as CEO of Petroflex S.A. He studied chemical and process engineering at the University of Buenos Aires then began his career with Dow Chemical in Brazil as Technical and Service Development Manager for Latin America. Most recently, Nogueira was responsible for global businesses in specialty chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates for Rhône-Poulenc.

Tones named to new Garlock unit 

Garlock Sealing Technologies appointed Matt Tones as Manager of Applications Engineering, a newly created unit. The 15-year veteran and third-generation company employee previously was product manager for the company’s GYLON® line of restructured PTFE gaskets. He joined the company in 1993 as a laboratory technician, served as OEM sales correspondent and has nearly 10 years of experience in applications engineering.

HI BoD appointees announced 

The Hydraulic Institute (HI) named John Miersma, Vice President, CFO and COO of Iwaki America Inc. as Chairman of the Board. President of Pentair Water Bill Waltz will serve as HI’s President. Other key appointments include Dave McKinstry, Vice President of IMO Pump, as Vice President, Technical Affairs; Dennis Ziegler, President and CEO of GIW Industries, Inc., as Vice President, Member Services and Gretchen McClain, President of ITT Corporation – Fluid Technology, as Vice President of Knowledge & Education.

NGWREF student awards announced

The National Ground Water Research and Educational Foundation (NGWREF) awarded $500 scholarships to four students for poster and paper presentations made at the 2008 Ground Water Summit held earlier this year. Given in honor of the late Dr. Robert Farvolden, scholarships were awarded based on presentation quality, content (including contribution to ground water science, engineering, management, or policy), and demonstrated insight on chosen topics. The winners were: Katelyn FitzGerald, Michigan Technological University; Laura Brunson, University of Oklahoma; Jennifer Oblinger Clemson University and Megan Smith, Colorado School of Mines.

Verbruggen new President of NatureWorks

Marc Verbruggen was named President and CEO of NatureWorks LLC, the first company to offer commercially available low carbon footprint polymers derived from 100-percent annually renewable resources. Previously, the 20-year marketing, sales and business leadership veteran served as President of Teijin subsidiary Toho Tenax America. Verbruggen holds Master’s and Doctorate degrees in aerospace engineering.

Pacific Ozone VP named

Pacific Ozone named Jeff Mitchell Vice President of Finance and Operations, in charge of expanding and enhancing Pacific Ozone’s finance and operations functions. Before joining Pacific Ozone, Mitchell served as Vice President of Operations, Finance and Administration for Sartorius Stedim.

Brian Lowe was named Director of Sales for Latin America, responsible for managing and expanding the company’s network of sales representatives and distributor. Lowe has 25 years of experience in technical sales in the biopharm and micro-electronics industries. Previously, he served as a Senior Sales Engineer for Ryan Herco Flow Solutions.

IDA Fellows announced

Arroyo

The International Desalination Association (IDA) has selected Salah Ibrahim Al-Khamis, Marine Biology Specialist, Department of Ecology and Marine Biology at Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) in Saudi Arabia and Jorge A. Arroyo, P.E., Innovative Water Technologies (IWT) Director at the Texas Water Development as recipients of its inaugural IDA Fellowship Award.  The goal of the IDA Fellowship Program is to facilitate the advancement of global expertise in desalination and water reuse through the exchange of talents, knowledge and skills. The Fellowship Awards were presented during the Singapore International Water Week.

NSF’s Davis promoted

NSF International promoted Petie Davis to Business Unit Manager of the organization’s sustainability programs. In her new position, she will oversee the programs that support a company’s sustainability initiatives from product claims to supplier audits. Davis has over 20 years of experience in environmental positions, including compliance and management systems auditor, consultant, manager, field scientist and trainer.  The 10-year NSF veteran most recently served as Business Unit Manager of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) Services. where she was responsible for launching several new initiatives and she developed the first working concept for framing existing sustainability program. Davis earned an MBA from Spring Arbor University, a Master of Science Degree in wildlife biology from Clemson University, SC and a Bachelor of Science Degree in biology from Clarion University in Pennsylvania.

MIOX Director promoted to VP 

MIOX Corporation promoted Kyle Lee to Vice President of Operations, with primary responsibility to continue to increase manufacturing and supply chain management efficiency. He joined the company in 2006 as Director of Operations, where he led the effort to build MIOX production and service organizations through improved inventory accuracy, on-time production and key service metrics. Previously, Lee spent ten years with Intel, responsible for production, quality and safety for a large manufacturing team. He received a BA Degree from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of New Mexico (UNM).

Bates named Sales Manager

CSI Controls announced the addition of Adam Bates as Regional Sales Manager, responsible for delivering a deep and innovative control product line. He will work even more closely to provide customers in the eastern half of the US with unique control solutions. Prior to pursuing a career in sales and business management, Bates attended Ohio State University, worked for CSI Controls as a custom panel builder and recently fulfilled an enlistment with the United States Marine Corps.

Calgon board member named 

Calgon Carbon Corporation announced the election of William J. Lyons to its board of directors. He has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of CONSOL Energy Inc. since 2005. Lyons began his career with CONSOL Energy in 1976 as an accountant and served in various positions of increasing responsibility. A Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant, he obtained both a Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration and a Master of Science Degree in accounting from Duquesne University. Lyons is a member of the Boards of Directors of CNX Gas Corporation and Duquesne University, where he is a member of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Audit and Finance Committee.
