van Deventer named by Purolite

Purolite Company announced that Johanna van Deventer has joined Purolite as Technical Sales Manager for South Africa. She will be located in Bedfordview near Johannesburg and will be responsible for developing Purolite’s South Africa and Southern Africa markets. van Deventer was employed at Mintek for 13 years where she gained extensive experience in the application of ion exchange resins in hydrometallurgical processes. A native of South Africa, she holds a B Tech in chemical engineering from Technikon Witwatersrand, SA. and is credited with a number of articles in scientific publications.

Purfresh VP announced

Hi-tech finance veteran Jeremy Wood has joined Purfresh as Vice President of Finance. With nearly 20 years in Silicon Valley, the former VP of Finance for Netflix, high growth is Jeremy’s bread and butter. A veteran of multiple technology and consumer service companies, Wood will manage the Purfresh’s financial and administrative functions as it expands its presence in domestic and international markets. He is a chartered accountant and holds Bachelor’s Degrees in accountancy and commerce from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

Davies appointed at Halma

Halma Water Management (HWM) has appointed Laurance Davies as Business Development Director USA. He will be responsible for finding new opportunities to incorporate HWM’s acoustic leak detection equipment, flow and pressure data loggers and flow measuring equipment into the water and wastewater industries. Davies is based in Cwmbran, UK but will work closely with HWM’s US affilliate, Fluid Conservation Systems Inc. in Milford, Ohio. Previously, he was Supply Chain Director at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics (Cardiff, UK) Davies holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Liverpool (Liverpool, UK).

Peterson new Pureflow executive

Pureflow, Inc. appointed Eric Peterson as Ultraviolet Technologies Division Sales Manager, with responsibilities including direct sales, marketing and product application. He brings over 20 years of UV and water treatment experience and leadership to the company. Previously, Peterson was Aquafine Corp.’s Director of North American Sales and Aftermarket.

Mueller named Bentley CMO

Bentley Systems, Incorporated announced the appointment of Edward Mueller as Chief Marketing Officer. He will develop and manage corporate and product marketing strategies and programs for Bentley’s comprehensive portfolio of software and services. Before joining Bentley, Mueller served as chief marketing officer for Everdream Corporation and has more than 20 years of experience working in Silicon Valley for both publicly and privately held software companies. Mueller holds a BSE Degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business.

Singapore Water Week

Dr. Andrew Benedek has received the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2008 for his outstanding work in pioneering the development of low-pressure membranes in water treatment. He has redefined the way water can be treated, showing how drinking water can be produced from different water sources, even those that are highly polluted. In his early research days, Benedek discovered the great potential and benefits of low-pressure membranes that can replace existing water and used water treatment processes. The Founder, Chairman and CEO of ZENON Environmental Inc. began as a Professor in McMaster University, Canada in 1970, where he taught and conducted water quality research. Benedek received his engineering degree (chemical) from McGill University, Montreal, Canada and his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle, with a focus on wastewater treatment. Currently, he is Managing Director of UTS BiogasTechnik GMBH.

Lenze-AC Tech

Lenze-AC Tech is pleased to announce Jim Craig is the new Director of Engineering. Craig will direct all new product design, development and sustaining engineering activities at the Uxbridge facility. The former Product Manager of Danfoss’ High Power Motor Drives unit brings over 28 years of industrial automation experience to the firm. Craig holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in electrical engineering from Southern Illinois University, has completed graduate work at Stanford University (Calif.) and holds multiple patents.

Stockholm winner announced

Professor John Anthony Allan from King’s College London and the School of Oriental and African Studies has been named the 2008 Stockholm Watere for his ‘virtual water’ innovation, which measures how water is embedded in the production and trade of food and consumer products. Professor Allan pioneered the development of key concepts in the understanding and communication of water issues and how they are linked to agriculture, climate change, economics and politics. The USD$150,000 Stockholm Water Prize will be presented August 21 in the Stockholm City Hall. H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden is the Patron of the Stockholm Water Prize.

McDermott’s golden anniversary

Tom McDermott, Sr., Chairman of the McDermott Company, was honored for decades of service and leadership to the water system industry at A. I. McDermott Company’s 63rd annual meeting. Tom, Jr., presented a golden McDermott pitcher pump to his father in recognition of his 50 years in the industry.

Webb appointed at EcoWater

EcoWater Systems, LLC hired Steve Webb, a 20-year water treatment veteran, as Vice President Dealer Sales and Marketing. He will be responsible for the overall direction of the company’s Dealer Sales and Marketing team. Webb’s primary focus is helping existing dealers grow and recruiting new dealers for the EcoWater brand.

Aqua Finance management changes

Aqua Finance announced three key appointments in April. Tracy Dudek, an Accounts Receivable Manager for more than 15 years, was named Senior Vice President of Account Servicing. Most recently, he served as COO of a national collection firm. Dudek will oversee Aqua Finance’s collection activities, bad debt recovery and account servicing department. Richard Kosiec became Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning and Acquisitions, responsible for developing company growth strategies, new product pricing, performance evaluation and handling the company’s portfolio acquisitions program. He joined the company in 2006 as Senior Vice President of Credit. Bob Hamilton, who joined the company in 2007 as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, assumed the role of Senior Vice President of Credit, Sales and Marketing. In his new role, he will retain responsibility for new business development activities and assume responsibility for managing credit approval processes and programs.
