Oenophiles—those who love wine—purchase special vintages by the case, often at three-, four- or even five-digit prices. The folks at Aqua Maestro think water connoisseurs are ready to do the same for the right bottled water.

Aqua Maestro began as one gentleman’s vision of filling a niche in the growing fine water market about five years ago. The venture enjoyed steady growth in the years since, was bought by Global Beverage Solutions in March of this year and is now the leading importer of fine bottled waters in the US. What began as a web-based, consumer-oriented business ( has expanded to include serving five-star hotels, restaurants and distributors via the Internet.

New parent company Global Beverage Solutions (publicly traded as GBVS) brought years of distribution experience to Aqua Maestro, enabling this purveyor of fine waters to grow in new and dynamic ways. Right now, the folks behind the penguin logo import 45 brands of bottled water from 16 countries—and are working to bring another half dozen or so to their customers in the months ahead.

Aqua Maestro’s line of bottled waters will shortly include St. Geron (France), Tasmanian Rain (Tasmania), Lauquen (Argentina), Iskilde (Denmark) and Aquadeco in Canada. In addition, a new category, enhanced waters, will premier on the website shortly. This will include neutraceutical, enhanced and functional waters from around the world. Expansion plans include the firm’s intention to add imported iced teas and lemonades in the future as well.

Retail customers can obtain discounted pricing, ‘first looks’ and complimentary samples of new products by joining the Penguin Club (a frequent shoppers reward program) for a small annual fee. For those near one of Aqua Maestro’s distribution facilities, Penguin Club membership includes enhanced delivery options.

Currently, Aqua Maestro’s main objective is to establish a network of distributors so that the entire product line can be dispersed easily via local delivery throughout the US. The firm’s consulting business is expanding, as five-star hotels contract with them to create ‘water menus’ for both restaurants and room service. Aqua Maestro works with management and chefs to build a water menu that compliments the cuisine and enhances the dining experience, then ensures delivery on a regular basis— important to these destination resorts.
