Pentair Europe fills posts
Werner Brauer was appointed managing director of Pentair Water Europe. New officers selected for the European management team were Jean Fleck, vice president of sales and marketing; and Aubrey Westinghouse, vice president of operations. Richard Cathcart, president of Pentair Water Technologies, said a search is being conducted for a vice president of administration.

WQA appoints new editor
Brandi Thomas has been named WQA’s new publications editor. Thomas previously worked for Ball Publishing, of Batavia, Ill., where she was a staff writer and editor for two horticultural magazines. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature and Spanish from Illinois Wesleyan University.

Ex-Culligan VP becomes CFO
marchFIRST Inc., a leading global professional services company, has named Michael Salvati as its CFO. As vice president of finance and CFO for Culligan Water Technologies Inc., Salvati managed Culligan’s financial operations, including mergers and acquisitions, as its revenues grew from $325 million in 1996 to more than $650 million in 1998. Culligan merged into USFilter in June 1998. Salvati holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Illinois.  

WERF appoints 2 members
The Water Environment Research Foundation’s board of directors has appointed two, Research Council members. Robert Arnold is a professor of chemical and environmental engineering at the University of Arizona. Lawrence Burns is an ecologist with the USEPA Office of Research and Development working at the National Exposure Research Laboratory in Athens, Ga. Fred Lindsey (USEPA) and Jerry Schnoor (University of Iowa) have retired from the council.

Paice heads up Sharp Water
Mike Paice has been hired as president of Sharp Water Inc., of Dover, Del. Paice will manage the company’s existing water conditioning and treatment business, initiate new water conditioning and treatment start-ups and assist in the identification and evaluation of potential acquisitions. Initially, he will be based in Las Vegas. Previously, he served as general manager for USFilter/Culligan in Las Vegas in 1997. Paice earned his bachelor’s degree in business and marketing from the University of Kentucky. In other company news, Steven Webb was hired as vice president. Before that, Webb was general manager and sales manager for Vivendi/Culligan Dealer Corp., of Santa Ana, Calif., since 1998. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Chico State University.

Two join Princo team
Princo Instruments Inc., of Southampton, Pa., manufacturer of density and level control instrumentation, added two to its management team. Ken Loewenstern has been hired as vice president. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Drexel University, a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in business administration from Rider College. Fran Mashintonio has been brought on as sales manager. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Temple University.

UL names new president
Underwriters Laboratories Inc. announced in March the election of Loring Knoblauch, as its ninth president and CEO. He was also elected to the UL board. Most recently, Knoblauch served as president and CEO of Talon Automated Equipment Company, a privately held manufacturer of industrial processing equipment. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a doctorate degree in jurisprudence from Harvard University. In conjunction with Knob-lauch’s election, G. Thomas Castino, UL’s prior president and CEO, was elected corporate vice chairman.

WQAP re-elects president
Dr. Jovito Deauna (center) of Aquaclean/J.Y. Deauna Enterprises, was re-elected president of the Water Quality Association Philippines (WQAP). The announcement was recently made during the General Membership Meeting and Election of Officers at the Philippine Columbian Clubhouse in Plaza Dilaco, Paco, Manila. Other officers elected were (from left to right): Rouselle San Buenaventura of Refresh Water Express Corp., Auditor; Gene Sia Barrameda of Benelcor Manufacturing Inc., Treasurer; Norma Maceda of Aqua Supreme, Secretary; Pablo Magno of Agua Purisima, Vice President-Internal; Maximino Par of Kool Water Inc., P.R.O: and Igmidio Cahanding of Agua Mia Purified Water Station, Vice President-External.
