Substances such as sand, clay and metals whose molecular structures do not contain carbon-hydrogen (C-H) bonds except as carbonates and similar; Matter which is not derived from living organisms and contains no organically produced carbon; includes rocks, minerals and metals. Inorganic chemicals are chemical substances of mineral origin, not of basically carbon structure. Mineral-based compounds such as metals, nitrates, and asbestos. These contaminants are naturally-occurring in some water, but can also get into water through farming, chemical manufacturing, and other human activities. EPA has set legal limits on 15 inorganic contaminants.
