Coagulation

« Back to Glossary Index

A process that alters the surface charge on dispersed colloidal particles in a liquid so that they are able to agglomerate; in wastewater treatment, the first stage in floc formation is coagulation, the clumping of particles to settle out impurities. Coagulation is often induced by chemicals (commonly lime, alum or iron salts).
