Krones AG has completed the purchase of 80 percent of Tampa, FL-based Trans-Market Sales & Equipment Inc., which will enhance Krones’ process technology capabilities in the US and expands its geographical footprint in North America. The company also announced it has won the More than a Market Award, conferred by the Bertelsmann Foundation and the German Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, for its social commitment in China. The company was awarded the prize in the 50-to-500 employees category for its Krones Machinery (Taicang) Co. Ltd. facility. The citation focused particularly on Krones’ Apprentice Training Programme, which offers courses for mechatronic technicians and metal-cutting machine operators.

Europe: VWM technology honored in Singapore

Vienna Water Monitoring Solutions (VWM GmbH ) announced it has won a highly-coveted award at Singapore International Water Week. The company was selected by the jury as the winner of the Innovation Competition for the development of its pioneering technology, the ColiMinder®, which allows bacterial contamination in water to be measured fully automated and within 15 minutes. At the same time, the company also clinched the Audience Award of the competition.

North America: TIGG AC adsorbers added to Ohio plant

TIGG, LLC has fabricated and delivered four mega-sized AC adsorbers to be integrated into the Hardin Road Water Treatment Plant under construction in Piqua, OH. Each vessel, 14 feet in diameter, holds 60,000 pounds of activated carbon. They were installed at the new facility in less than three hours. The company’s systems are employed nationwide for the removal of potable water contaminants regulated by US EPA.

The International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo has selected three non-profit organizations to help boost awareness and drive donations in their continued effort to give back to the industry. This year’s group consists of World of Recreational Water Foundation® (in collaboration with The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals), the National Swimming Pool Foundation® Step into Swim Campaign and Water for a Warrior. North America: Dow products honored

R&D Magazine (R&D) named 15 Dow Chemical Company products as finalists for the 2016 R&D 100 Awards, recognizing new product innovations introduced in 2015. Often referred to as the Oscars of Invention, these awards celebrate the most significant technology inventions of the past year. Dow has also been named a finalist in the 2016 Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Global Awards. The company has three nominations, including the Water Award, for its Tarragona DEMOWARE industrial water reuse project. The award is given for “the best project or process demonstrating innovation in water use, cleanup and reuse, with a particular emphasis on reducing environmental impact while preserving commercial viability.”

North America: Culligan campaign launched

A new survey (conducted in July) found that 75 percent of participants believe water safety is a growing concern in North America, yet 73 percent have never had their water tested for harmful impurities such as lead, E. coli, arsenic, hydrogen sulfide and iron. To help address water safety concerns, Culligan International has launched its Truth About Water campaign, including a national survey to understand just how much or how little consumers know about water, along with actionable tips to help ensure their water is clean and safe.
