Hellebrand and Logan appointed sales managers
Hellenbrand, Inc. has appointed Andrea Hellenbrand as Regional Sales Manager dedicated to developing their customer base in the Southeast US and Gerald Logan as Regional Sales Manager responsible for the Midwest Region. Hellenbrand previously served seven years with a multinational corporation where she most recently held the position of Key Account Manager, leading a team responsible for achieving annual sales in excess of $28 million (USD). She grew up in the family water treatment business keenly aware of the customer-satisfaction core value passed on by her grandparents, Jim and Florence Hellenbrand, the company founders. Hellebrand graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration. Marteney new WQA expert
To help its members with bottled water opportunities and promote industry cooperation, the Water Quality Association (WQA) announced the hiring of veteran professional Barbara Marteney to develop its new Bottled Water Program. With 17 years of in-depth experience in the bottled water and food industries, she will help WQA support the bottled water industry through education, certification and consultative services. Marteney will work as an independent contractor for the organization. Many WQA members are already involved in the bottled water industry and many bottlers are becoming increasingly interested in diversifying their business by providing water treatment as an option to their customers. Marteney brings extensive expertise, including her upcoming position as president of the Northeast Bottled Water Association (NEBWA) for 2014 and 2015. AXEON sales team expanded
AXEON Water Technologies expanded its Sales Department with the addition of Dan Melendez, CWS-V and certified installer, and added Micheal Veinbergs as Marketing Manager. Melendez brings 30 years of water industry experience and expertise with a history of driving growth through increased distribution and new account development. He will be responsible for growing and maintaining the company’s current customer base through the development of relationships and promotion of products. CH2M Hill’s Huggins honored
CH2M HILL announced that Senior Vice President Norm Huggins was presented the Beaubien Award during the 2013 Canadian Consulting Engineering award gala in October. The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies Canada (ACEC) recognizes an individual each year for lifetime contributions to advance the consulting engineering industry and profession, as well as service to ACEC. Huggins celebrated his 45th anniversary with the firm in August. He joined CH2M HILL as a summer intern in 1966 and after graduating from Queen’s University with a degree in civil engineering in 1969, commenced work as a design engineer, designing water and wastewater infrastructure for projects throughout Ontario.
WWEMA Executive Director announced
The Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association (WWEMA) named Vanessa Leiby to serve as Executive Director of the association, effective January 1, 2014. Leiby has more than 30 years of experience in the water and wastewater industry and has extensive experience in association management, having served as Executive Director of the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA) from 1991 to 2003. Previously, Leiby worked from 1989 to 1991 as an environmental scientist at Wade Miller Associates and from 1987 to 1989 as an air-water quality scientist for the Ohio EPA state drinking water program. She holds a BS Degree in zoology, with a concentration in aquatic ecology and an MS Degree in zoology with a concentration in aquatic toxicology from The Ohio State University.
IDA award winners announced
The International Desalination Association (IDA) announced the recipients of its Best Papers Awards and the Emerging Leaders Achievement Award in Desalination and Water Reuse. Five awards for best papers were conferred in five categories, with each winner receiving a monetary prize of $5,000 (USD): Best Oral Presentation honors included Thermal Desalination and Water Reuse, Dr. Guillermo Zaragoza, Plataforma Solar de Almeria, Spain; Membrane Desalination and Water Reuse, Nuria Pena Garcia, Genesys Membrane Products, Spain; General Topic of Desalination and Water Reuse, Lucina Equihua, Degrémont, Mexico and Young Leader, Ronan McGovern, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) US. Best Poster Presentation/General Topic of Desalination and Water Reuse honors went to Professor Anastasios Karabelas, Center for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH), Greece. Miguel Galvez of NBD Nanotechnologies, Inc., USA, received the 2013 Emerging Leaders Achievement Award, which carries a monetary prize of $5,000.
Martens named Water Council Director
The Water Systems Council (WSC) has named Margaret Martens as Executive Director. She joined WSC in 2010, previously serving as Public Education Coordinator and Program Director. Martens has more than 25 years of experience working in nonprofit management, specializing in organizational development, strategic planning, program development and implementation, marketing and education, fundraising, financial management, grant management and policy development. She received her BS Degree from Arizona State University and is the co-Founder of two nonprofit organizations in Charlotte, NC that serve the housing needs of low-income families and individuals.
IBWA Board members and officers named
The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) announced its 2013-2014 officers and Board of Directors. Members elected the association’s leadership during the 2013 Annual Business Conference held in November. Breck Speed (Mountain Valley Spring Co.) was elected to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors for 2013-2014. He is a member of IBWA’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors and served as Vice Chairman in 2012 and Treasurer in 2011. David Muscato (Nestle Waters of North America) was elected Vice Chairman; Bryan Shinn (The Water Guys) was elected Treasurer and Bill Young (Absopure Water Co.) became immediate Past Chairman.
Calgon CFO honored
Calgon Carbon’s Stevan Schott was honored by the Pittsburgh Business Times as the CFO of the Year in the publicly traded company category. He received the award thanks to his contribution to Calgon Carbon and his ability to capitalize on growth opportunities. Schott began his career with Deloitte & Touche as a Senior Manager in the auditing practice. In 1998, he moved on to Duquesne Light and became CFO. In 2007, Schott joined Calgon Carbon as Executive Director of Finance, was quickly promoted to Vice President of Finance in 2008, accepted the role of Vice President, CFO in 2010 and in 2011, was named Senior Vice President.
